Richard John Smagula, 78, of Forked River died Wednesday January 14, 2015 at Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune. He was born in Paterson in 1936 and served our country in the US Army overseas. Richard was employed by Ocean County in the management and finance departments retiring in 1999. He was a member of the Bayville VFW Post 9503, enjoyed spending time with his friends there and the Pheasant Run Sprinkler Committee. His favorite past time was playing golf with all his buddies  at Silver Ridge Park West Golf Club and at the Atlantic City Casinos.

Rick was predeceased by his first wife Elaine and daughter Karen. Surviving are his loving wife of seventeen years Nancy; his son Paul; his brother Paul and his wife Lois; nephews James and Michael; step-daughter Kathy Hansen and step-son James Nobel and his wife Karen; loving grand-father, “POP POP” to eight grandchildren.

Visitation will be Sunday 1-5 at the Layton’s Home For Funerals, Forked River.  Cremation will be private .
