Helen A Sowa, beloved wife of Michael Sowa, passed away peacefully on June 8, 2017 in her own bed, in her own home surrounded by loving family. A registered nurse who favored the Operating Room, she worked in most areas of patient care during her career.
Happily married to husband Mike for 57 years, she willingly endured 14 home relocations due to her husband’s job. Thus, during their married life, Helen became expert in the processes of buying or building and selling houses.
Helen raised two wonderful sons, Michael and Robert, being very proud of them and their families: Michael and wife, Patricia, granddaughters Maggie and Kathy of Austin, TX and Surf City, NJ. Robert and wife, Patricia, grandson Gregory, and granddaughter Olivia of Hollywood, MD.
Also, she is survived by a sister Dorothy Teringer of Naples, FL and several nieces and nephews.
A strong personality and endless curiosity led her to travel the world with husband Mike. From China, to North and South America, to Russia and most of the stops in between. Helen especially enjoyed the native cuisines and visiting the local fresh food markets. Favorite hobbies included cooking gourmet meals, reading and owning an endless stock of cookbooks, forming 1000 piece puzzles and decorating walls (which everyone admired) with antique kitchen utensils found at yard sales over the years.
Helen was an active member of several ministries at St. Pius X Roman Catholic Church, as well as a member of the Ladies Auxiliaries of the Forked River Tuna Club and The Knights of Columbus Father Capodanno Council #6522. She was also a member of the Forked River Republican Club, The Daytime Womans Club and Friends of the Lacey Library as well as other organizations.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the Scholarship Funds of either the Knights of Columbus Father Capodanno Council #6522 or the Forked River Tuna Club.
