George A. Reilly, age 66, died peacefully in his sleep July 29 at Arista Care in Manchester after fighting a long battle with cancer. He was a devoted husband, father, father in law, and a special grandfather. George A. Reilly was born November 14, 1950 in Orange, NJ to Joseph and Alice Reilly and the youngest of 7 children. George lived in Orange until 1968 then moved to Point Pleasant Beach.
George met the love of his life when they were sixteen years old and have been together since then for 51 years. George and Janet married September 2, 1972. together they had two daughters Lisa and Joann. They moved to Lacey Township in 1977. George was a well-known builder and has built numerous homes and businesses throughout Lacey Township.
George was involved with Pop Warner/AYF for over 33 years, he dedicated many years to the kids of Lacey, Brick, and Southern, but mostly Lacey. He loved football and was passionate about the kids he coached. He has passed that love of football onto all the kids he met. George held many important positions from President of Lacey for 23 years, and was Sergeant of Arms, Football Commissioner, and League Rep for numerous years with Pop Warner/Ayf. Throughout Georges years of coaching he has won many League, Regional, State, and Mid-Atlantic Championships. In 2012, George was one of eight men and women from the country to be inducted into the American Youth Football Hall of Fame. He was presented with an award and a nice dinner in his honor, in Orlando Florida. George has also coached his daughter’s softball teams and loved by many.
George is survived by his wife Janet Reilly of 44 years, his daughters Lisa and her husband Chris Locha of Lanoka Harbor, daughter Joann and her husband Jesse Ascolese of Brick, his 5 grandchildren Christopher, Jesse, Nicholas, Riley, and Francesca. His brother Paul E. Reilly of South Hampton, brother Gerald Reilly of Garfield, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
