Walton Springhorn Obituary

Walton Scott Springhorn, 77, passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 16, 2025 surrounded by his wife and daughters.

Born on November 2, 1947, in Bronx, NY, Walton grew up in Yonkers, NY, and graduated from Saunders Trades and Technical High School, where he learned the electrical trade.

In 1967, Walton was drafted into the Vietnam War, where he bravely served one tour of duty, earning both the Purple Heart and Bronze Star for his valor. In 1974, he joined the New York Army National Guard. Over the course of a distinguished 35-year military career, he rose to the rank of Command Sergeant Major and received numerous honors, including the Meritorious Service Medal, the Legion of Merit, and the Army Commendation Medal.

As a civilian, Walton worked as an electrician with IBEW Local 3 in Flushing, NY. Known for his strong work ethic and willingness to lend a hand, he was often the first person family and friends called when anything electrical—or otherwise—needed fixing.

In 1970, Walton met the love of his life, Catherine, and the two married on April 8, 1972. Together, they recently celebrated 53 years of marriage, a true testament to their devotion and partnership.

Walton is predeceased by his mother and father, Daphna and Winfield Springhorn. He leaves behind his beloved wife, Catherine; his daughters, Kellie Cramer (David) and Linette Springhorn (Harsh); his sister, Judith; and his cherished grandchildren, Austin, David, Hayden, and Harper to whom he will always be remembered as "Pops."

Outside of his professional and military accomplishments, Walton enjoyed a full life. He loved tending to his garden, savoring Italian food and pignoli cookies, attending Broadway shows, and most of all, spending time with his children and grandchildren. His generosity, dry sense of humor, and quiet strength will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

A private funeral service will take place at Arlington National Cemetery in Washington, DC. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Disabled American Veterans (DAV).
