Walter D. Bischoff (aka Honeybunch and Hoppy), beloved husband, father, and grandfather died at the age of 82 on April 16, 2020 in Forked River, New Jersey. He was a mechanical engineer, volunteered for many organizations, was a passionate computer hardware and software developer (Abacus Applications Inc.), enjoyed gardening and walking outside, deep sea and fly fishing, and was a longtime supplier of fresh baked bread and banana squares to family, friends and community across New Jersey.
Walt was born in the Bronx, New York, to Lina and Bruno Bischoff. He attended Brooklyn Tech, and received his BA in Mechanical Engineering at Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, NY. He served in an Engineer’s Unit in the United States Army Reserve. He was the co-founder of Sloan and Bischoff Inc., a firm that sold heavy equipment and machinery to companies all across the Eastern United States and Asia.
He led a life deeply rooted in love for his family and service to others. Together with his wife Norahmarie, he taught Sunday School to children at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Summit, NJ. He was a member and then President of the Father’s Club at Oak Knoll School in Summit NJ, where he also taught children to bake bread in the Ministries Program, and spent many Christmases guest appearing as Santa Claus for the yearly Kindergarten pageant. In retirement he volunteered to bake and cook at St. John’s Soup Kitchen in Newark, NJ, he sewed blankets that were distributed to hospitals by the Christ Child Society in Summit, NJ, and he was the Editor of The Breeze Way, the newsletter for his neighborhood.
Walt is survived by his wife of 51 years, Norahmarie (Cozzupoli), his children Kirsten Bischoff, Joshua Bischoff (Megan Brown), and Noel Sweeney (Daniel Sweeney); his grandchildren Sophie, Walter, Eleanor, Abigail, Madeleine, Brenner; and his brothers Carsten Bischoff (Barbara Bischoff) and Bruno Bischoff (Patty Bischoff).
