Richard Petersen was born on July 14, 1943 and passed away on April 5, 2022. He was a beloved father, husband, and grandfather. He is survived by his wife Ellen Lutter Petersen. Richard and Ellen met in kindergarten, and married in 1967, enjoying 55 years of marriage together.
Richard served in the United States Marines from 1961-1965. He loved his country deeply. He then served as a police officer for the New York City Police Department, later becoming a detective. Richard and Ellen raised their family in Grant City, Staten Island where he lived for the majority of his life. He was a baseball coach to his children’s little league teams for many years. Later he moved to Manahawkin, New Jersey. During this time, he worked as a real estate agent at Weichert Realty. He enjoyed watching every Yankees game, golfing, visiting with his family and playing with his granddog!
Richard is survived by his family; his son Roy and his daughter-in-law Amy Vinturella, son Steve and his daughter-in-law Amy Petersen, and daughter Susan and his son-in-law Rob Phillips. He was known as Poppy to his two grandchildren Sarah and Emily Phillips who he loved dearly. He is also survived by his two step-grandchildren Jacques and Elise. He will be missed by all that knew him.
