Neil Mcnerney Obituary

Loving Husband, Father and Grandfather, Neil Mcnerney, 63 of Forked River, NJ passed on 4-4-22. Born in Brooklyn, NY, lived his childhood in Hazlet, NJ and lived in Forked River for many years.

Neil was a talented and hardworking electrician since the young age of 19. Neil was a proud member of the Local 400 IBEW for 20+ years. Before recent retirement, Neil was one of the most dedicated Journey men in Local 400. Neil’s family meant the world to him, and he devoted his work and life to providing for his girls.

Words from his eldest daughter Rachel,” I never imagined at the age of 26 I would lose my father. Honestly, I don’t think it has hit me yet. My whole life he was the one person in my eyes I could look up to. He was always there for me in my darkest days. He is and always will be the best man, husband, father, and grandfather to exist. I could sit here all day and retell all the memories I had with him but in the end all I want is for him to know I love him so much and that I will see you again.”

Jennifer, his middle daughter, included “I’ve been dreading this day to come my whole life. My dad was absolutely my best friend, he was everything I could’ve asked for in a father. I could just sit there and talk to him for hours on end, just cracking up over nonsense and I just can’t believe I’ll never have that again. I’m going to miss all, the big hugs, the mustache kisses, the belly bumps, your big hands that I loved holding whenever I needed it. I love you, Dad; I cannot wait to see you again.”

Christine, his youngest daughter, “My dad was the rock of my family. Growing up he gave me a childhood I won’t forget and will always cherish. The car rides, going to a different park whenever he could find a new one to bring us too. Gave me life-long friends, I never had to worry. Life seemed so simple young and as I grew up, he taught me a lot of things. Whenever he would work on something around the house, I was always his helping hand. His hands, eyes and smile were my favorite part about him even his sarcastic humor never failed to make me laugh. I was dreading to write this because I didn’t think I had it in me. He always was here for us and all I want is to be held in his arms forever. I’ll always love you for you dad, we will meet again.”

Neil is survived by his loving wife of 27 years, Patricia McNerney, his children Rachel McNerney and son-in law Dominic DiFortuna , Jennifer and Christine McNerney, grandsons Mason and Vinnie, siblings Brian McNerney, Eileen Rasmussen, Mary Dunn and husband Charles Dunn, Francine Reinecke and husband Frank Reinecke, sister-in law Susan McNerney, and many loving nieces and nephews.
