Michael “Chevy” Chevalier, 69, of the Forked River section of Lacey Township, passed away Saturday, February 3, 2024, in Toms River, NJ.

Michael was born in Red Bank, NJ and resided in Port Monmouth, NJ.  He was a 1973 graduate of Middletown High School where he played Baseball and football.  In his early adult years, he played for Stafford Tire Men’s Softball, and he also bowled having scored 2 299 games.

In 1987, he went to work at Navel Weapons Station Earle, Colts Neck, where he met the love of the rest of his life, Wanda.  They married in 1990, however continued commuting together daily to work until they both retired in 2021.

They moved to Forked River in 1989, and was an active participating coach in youth sports for many years, which included Lacey Girls Softball for 3 years, Lacey Pop Warner Football for 14 years, Lacey Little League for 4 years, and Bob Court Basketball for 2 years.  All the kids and parents loved “Coach Mike”.

Michael enjoyed camping, Atlantic City, Notre Dame Football, and the NY Mets.

Michael was a lifelong Dallas Cowboy fan.  Everyone recognized him with his, “Baseball Cap”, which he rarely removed!

Michael loved all kinds of music, as he collected over 500 vinyl records, a multitude of CDs and DVDs of musical groups.

His ultimate passion was his Christmas Village, which included over 100 small houses.  He would make a Christmas Village in his garage, inviting friends, family, and anyone who would enjoy experiencing this holiday wonderland.

Michael passed from complications of Parkinsons Disease and Neuropathy which started affecting him over the past few years, however his impact with his ever-joking personality with anyone who knew him will last forever.  He will be especially missed by, “His Wanda”, his “3 Amigos”, his USMC son, and his beloved grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his parents, Thomas and Madeleine, nee Jensen Chevalier.

Surviving are his loving wife of 33 years, Wanda nee Kermes Chevalier; a son, Michael and his wife, Kate, Barnegat; 3 daughters, Stephanie Chevalier, Forked River, Amy Collins, Barnegat, Nikki and her husband, Bret Oberhauser, Forked River; 4 grandchildren, Owen and Cody Collins, Gerry Fleites, and Kinsley Chevalier; a sister, Lesly Betsch, Brick; 3 brothers, Thomas and Marie Chevalier, Richard and Cherly Chevalier, both of Cape Coral, FL, Harold and Jodie Chevalier, Ocean Gate; several beloved nieces and nephews; and many friends and neighbors who have meant so much to him.
