Martin Robert Tholen, 83, of Forked River passed away peacefully in his home on July 14th, 2021. He was born April 29th, 1938 in Jersey City and raised in Guttenberg, the son of Robert Tholen and Madelyn Schmitt Tholen.
He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Claire DelaMotte Tholen; his children: Kerri Tholen O’Hearn and Michael O’Hearn, Kathleen Tholen Folla and Michael Folla, Maureen Tholen Romanowski and Randolph Romanowski, and Michael Martin Tholen; his grandchildren: Randolph and Megan Romanowski, Rachel (Romanowski) and Dustin Javins, Garrett and Taylor Romanowski, Madison (Folla) and Ryan Williamson, Michael Folla, MyLinh O’Hearn, Tierney O’Hearn, Michael O’Hearn, Donovan O’Hearn, Adalaide Tholen, and Maeve Tholen; his great-grandchildren: Jaxson and Emerson Javins, Raelynn Romanowski, and the future baby boy Williamson; his brothers and sisters-in-laws; Robert and Carol Tholen, Ronald and Jill Tholen, and Nancy DelaMotte; and many loved relations.
Martin proudly served in the Army before becoming a union carpenter from which he retired in 1994. He was also a volunteer firefighter in Guttenberg before moving to Forked River with his family in 1978. Martin coached Little League Baseball and Pop Warner Football while his children were young. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, and golfing. Family meant everything to him. He was so proud of the beautiful family he and Claire raised, and his favorite times were when everyone was together. Martin loved being a Pop-Pop and getting his grandchildren as wound up and loud as possible. He will be remembered with lots of smiles, happiness, and wonderful memories. Martin was a wonderful role model for so many and will be loved forever.
