With heavy hearts we announce the passing of Marilyn Carmella Hellmuth, 80, of Lanoka Harbor, New Jersey on December 30, 2025. Marilyn was born in Newark, New Jersey to Rocco and Julia Meola.
She graduated from Barringer High School and Montclair State University and worked for 35 years in Newark, South Plainfield, and Jackson township as a family and consumer sciences teacher. While at the Christa McAuliffe Middle School in Jackson, she co-chaired the committee that won the 2002 National Blue Ribbon School of Excellence award. She loved sailing and will be remembered for her inquisitive mind, lifelong love of learning, and extraordinary sewing skills.
Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents and is survived by her husband of 56 years, David J. Hellmuth, son and daughter-in-law David C. and Susan Hellmuth, daughter and son-in-law Julianne and Kyle Flanagan, granddaughters Elodie and Mathilde Hellmuth, brothers Rocco and Arthur Meola, and sister Nancy Cummins.
A Memorial Mass will be held on Friday January 9 at 9:30am at the Church of Saint Pius X, Forked River followed by inurnment at Saint Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery, Toms River.
