Marilyn Hargis Obituary

Marilyn Joy (nee Uhlig) Hargis, 82, of Lanoka Harbor died peacefully on October 23, 2024, surrounded by her beloved family.

     Marilyn was born July 13, 1942 in Cranford, NJ to Gustav and Viola Uhlig. She moved to Lanoka Harbor as a child and attended the little schoolhouse in Forked River and Central Regional High School. She married Walter W. Hargis in 1963 and started a family on Long Beach Island.  In 1977, she moved back to her childhood home where she has resided ever since.

     Marilyn was a skilled swimmer, sailor and baton twirler in her youth. She also loved to play the piano, with ragtime, jazz and musicals being her favorites.  She was also a skilled seamstress/costumer and dressed many of Lacey Middle School and High School plays and productions.  She loved being a homemaker, decorating, gardening, doing crossword puzzles watching tennis and spending time with her family.

     Marilyn is preceded in death by her husband, her parents, and her two sisters, Margo Vaughn and Arlene Scott.

     She is survived by her children, Walter W. Hargis Jr. and Karen E. Kirchner; her grandchildren, Walter W. Hargis III, Alyson Blasi and her husband Kenny, and Kenneth and Evan Kirchner; her great grandchildren Aubrey and K.J. Blasi; many nieces, nephews extended family members and friends.

     A Celebration of Life for Marilyn will be held at Layton’s Home For Funerals on November 21st, 6-8 pm. Please visit laytons.net for additional information and to leave condolences for the family.
