Maria A. Vidal, known to family and friends as Lena, passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 2, 2024. Maria recently celebrated her 100th Birthday and had a great time at the celebration.
Maria Arcelina Garrelhas Vidal was born April 7, 1924 in Ilhavo, Portugal. It was there that she met and married Antonio VIdal on February 28, 1942. On October 10, 1950 Maria at the age of 26 moved to Newark, NJ to join her husband who had previously arrived in America. The couple were very proud United States Citizens. In 1977 she relocated to Forked RIver, NJ with her family.
Maria and Antonio were blessed with seven sons: Antonio, Louis, Manuel, Tommy, Gilbert, David and Daniel. She was an exceptional cook, known for her delicious caldeirada (seafood stew) and aletria (pudding). She also enjoyed gardening, sewing, knitting and crocheting lace doilies for everyone.
Maria was predeceased by her husband Tony in 1990. She is survived by her seven sons, seven daughters-in-laws, seven grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
