Lawrence (Larry) Celmer, formerly of Wayne and Forked River passed away after a brief illness at the age of 90.
Born on December 10,1933 to Albert and Stephanie Celmer in Plymouth, PA, he was the eldest of three sons. He leaves a brother, Matthew of Pompton Lakes, NJ and several nephews. His beloved son, David, predeceased him as did his brother, Paul.
Larry was the beloved husband of Janice Mueller Celmer of Clifton, NJ. On August 7, 2024 they celebrated sixty-four years of happily married life.
A proud American, after completing service in the Army Chemical Corps during the Korean Conflict, Larry went on to graduate from Fairleigh Dickinson University with a degree in Business Management. Early in this career, he worked in purchasing with Yardley of London, Totowa, NJ and later on with Chemway Corporation, Wayne, NJ. His main thrust, however, was thirty years spent with O.Berk Company, Union, NJ working with distribution and packaging of glass, plastic, and aluminum containers used in the cosmetic and the pharmaceutical industry.
Larry was a man of many interests. He especially loved cars, sports, traveling, history and politics. His main love was his home. He always said the best part of his day was when he opened the door and walked into his home. He was loved and he will be forever missed. There is a door forever waiting to be opened. Someone will forever be waiting for the doorknob to turn and for him to walk through that door and come home again.
Friends may call from 2-4 Tuesday at Layton's Home For Funerals, (609) 971-6800, 250 W. Lacey Road, Forked River, Lacey. Relatives and friends of the family are respectfully invited to attend the funeral on Wednesday, at 9 a.m. from the funeral home, hence to The Church of Saint Pius X, Forked River, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at Laurel Grove Cemetery, Totowa.
