Josephine M. Braisted Obituary

On October 14, 2024, Josephine Margaret Braisted (nee Vigliotti), loving wife, mother and grandmother, died peacefully at the age of 81. Josephine was born on September 11, 1943 in Bronx, NY to Luigi and Anna Vigliotti. She graduated from Saint Gabriel's High School, New Rochelle, NY in 1961 and worked as a bank teller at Northside Savings Bank. In June 1964, she married Charles Braisted and moved to Lake Hopatcong, NJ where they resided for 41 years. Josephine was a parishioner of St. Jude’s Roman Catholic Church and taught CCD for 7 years in the parish. She worked as a career center assistant at Hopatcong High School for almost 20 years, and she and Charles raised two daughters, Dawn and Debra, in the Borough before retiring to Greenbriar Oceanaire Golf & Country Club, Waretown, NJ in 2005.

Josephine had a passion for cooking and baking (particularly her homemade sauce, delicious Italian Christmas cookies, and her 1976 award-winning “Company’s Coming Meatloaf,”) and she loved time spent with her family during the holidays most of all. She cruised the Mediterranean with Charles for their 30th wedding anniversary and always described it as the best trip she ever experienced! In her retirement years, Josephine enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren, and close friends and was a parishioner at The Church of St. Pius X in Forked River. She participated in Greenbriar’s Bocce Club, Italian-American Club, Women’s Club and Gardenaires Club. Josephine was truly thankful for all the friends and family who called, wrote, visited and were “there for her” during the last 19 years in Greenbriar, and she had many fond memories of times at the pool and clubhouse, walks around Heritage Circle, and girls’ trips to Ocean City.

Josephine was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Braisted. She is survived by her two daughters Dawn (Mark) Kosko of Egg Harbor Township, and Debra (Kurt) Redling of Flemington; and her 3 grandchildren, Nicholas (Chelsea) Kosko, Natalie Kosko and Kaitlin Redling.
