Joseph Locascio Obituary

Joseph John Locascio, age 83, passed away peacefully on May 6, 2026, at Southern Ocean Medical Center, Manahawkin, NJ.  He was a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and friend to all who knew him.  Joe is survived by his devoted wife, Joyce; his sons, Joseph (Claudine) Locascio of Denver, CO, Christopher (Leslie Ann) of Raleigh, NC; grandsons, Nicholas Locascio of Seattle, WA, William Locascio of Colorado Springs, CO; and his brother Louis (Sue Anne) Locascio of Lincroft, NJ.  In addition, he is predeceased by his parents Joseph and Elsie of Linden, NJ, and his brothers Michael Locascio of Westfield, NJ and Peter Locascio of Atlantic Highlands, NJ.  He was known as “Uncle Joe” to 11 nieces and nephews.

Joe was born on September 11, 1942, in Linden, NJ.  He attended St. Benedict’s Preparatory High School and Montclair State University where he excelled in both basketball and baseball.  At St. Benedict’s he held the school record for many years in basketball scoring 41 points in a single game before the 3 point shot rule existed.

As an educator, Joe spent 40 years as a physical education teacher, as a baseball and basketball coach, and as the Athletic Director in two high schools. He also served part time as the Director of Adult Education at North Brunswick Township High School and as the Executive Director of the New Jersey Association of Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance.

Joe was honored in 1982 as the Middlesex County Athletic Director of the Year.  Joe’s accomplishments as an athlete, coach, and high school administrator earned him induction into four athletic Hall of Fames:  St. Benedict’s Preparatory High School, Montclair State University, Roselle Catholic High School, and North Brunswick Township High School.

Joe and Joyce were married on June 22, 1968, and they would be celebrating their 58th wedding anniversary next month.  Upon retirement, Joe dedicated himself to 15 years of volunteer work at Southern Ocean Medical Center and St. Mary’s Church, Barnegat.  He will be remembered as a passionate college basketball fan and for attending many minor league baseball games.  In 2006, Joe and Joyce moved to the Greenbriar Oceanaire Community in Waretown where they enjoyed 19 years of an active retirement lifestyle.  Humility, devotion, and fortitude are characteristics that best describe Joe.
