Jerry L Giglio, Jr.,72, of Barnegat, formerly of Forked River, Lacey, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, February 27, 2022.
Born in Brooklyn, NY to the late June and Jerry L Giglio, Sr., Jerry moved to Rahway, NJ when he was 8. He spent his teenage years entertaining customers at his parent's deli on St George Avenue and working on cars with his buddies. After high school, he continued his education at Tusculum University where he fell in love with both Greenville, TN and his beautiful wife, Helen. Jerry graduated in 1970 and received his bachelor’s degree in Business Administration.
Jerry started out with his own business with Singer Sewing Machines. When Resorts Hotel and Casino in Atlantic City opened its doors, Jerry joined in the excitement and started dealing Craps and Blackjack. He spent the biggest chapter of his life working in the casino to take care of his family. After retiring in 2008, Jerry took a job working at the Home Depot in Forked River. Jerry was well loved and well respected with his coworkers. Jerry always had a smile and a happy, friendly word for everyone he met.
Jerry's life was devoted to his family. He loved his children, grandchildren and great-granddaughter dearly. After losing his firstborn, Jerry L. III, in 1997, Jerry became known as "the train man." Every Christmas, he would open his 2-car garage, complete with 17 sets of running trains, to the town. He'd spread holiday cheer with hot chocolate, Christmas music, firetrucks and visits from Santa.
After losing his second son, Nicholas Thomas, in 2009, Jerry continued to show strength, endurance and perseverance. He was an example to all around him.
Jerry is survived by his wife Helen, and his sister, Maryann Prokop, as well as his daughter, Tracy, his grandchildren, Ana, Marisa, Beck, Em, Grace, Caleb and his great-granddaughter, Sophia.
Visitation will be held Thursday 2-6 pm at Layton’s Home For Funerals, Forked River. A funeral service will be Friday 10 am at The Village Lutheran Church, Lanoka Harbor.
