Jay "Barry" Cornelius

Jay "Barry" Cornelius, 81, passed away peacefully in his Ocean Gate home on Tuesday April 5, 2022, after a short battle with cancer. Barry was born on June 7, 1940 at the home of his parents in the town of Ocean Gate.

Barry was a graduate of Central Regional High School class of 1958. Upon graduation he enlisted in the U.S. Navy.

On June 21,1975 Barry married the love of his life MaryAnn. On that day, he also became a father to Mike and Bud Walsh.

Barry was employed by the Building and Grounds Maintenance Department of Ocean County for 30 years. He was also a lifetime member of both the Ocean Gate and Whiting First Aid Squads.

Barry loved hunting, fishing, gardening and camping. But his greatest love was the love for his family and his hometown of Ocean Gate. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle and friend.

Barry was predeceased by his parents, his sister Jill and his wife of almost 34 years, MaryAnn.

Barry is survived by his sons, Michael Walsh and his wife Heather, Thomas "Bud" Walsh and his wife Geralynn. Grandchildren Joseph Walsh and his wife Nicole, Jenna Cipriano and her husband Andrew, Tyler Walsh and his fiance Sierra, Chelsea Walsh, Michael Walsh and Tia Walsh. Great Grandchildren, Luca and Briella Cipriano, Zachary and Jake Walsh. Brothers Kerry Cornelius and his wife Judy, Lance Cornelius and his wife Staci. Sister Karen Cornelius. Several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews, friends and his loyal companion, his dog Grady.
