Gary Bushman, 80, passed away peacefully, Sunday, July 18, 2021 at Southern Ocean Center, Manahawkin, NJ. He was born in Plainfield, New Jersey along with his siblings. He was the youngest of nine children all of which are deceased. His beloved sister Helen Lombardi just passed away March 21, 2021. He is survived by many cousins, as well as many nieces and nephews and numerous great nieces and nephews all over the country.
Gary went to school in Plainfield and graduated from South Plainfield High School with his senior class. He joined the Navy on August 2nd, 1960 and because he enlisted on his own he did not have to go to battle in Vietnam but instead traveled aboard the USS Roosevelt and was stationed in Greece for his four years of service. Upon returning from the military, he worked at Elizabethtown Water Company, in Plainfield as a meter service & repairman. He lived in Piscataway during the years while he worked at the water company and eventually bought a house in Forked River about 40 years ago.
After retirement, he moved to his Forked River home full-time. At this time Gary volunteered and drove Veterans to different medical appointments for a few years. Gary was a kind and generous man and always was there to help anyone in need whether it was a few groceries, or to give them a ride to a doctor’s appointment. His favorite past- time for the last twenty years was going to his sister, Helen’s house and having lunch with her and then they’d be off to Walmart, Shoprite, or the dollar store for their favorite finds.
