Evelyn Anne Paulsen (nee McCullagh), formerly of Bayville, passed away peacefully at the age of 91 on November 2, 2021.
Born in Rahway in 1930, she also lived in Toms River, Tinton Falls, and Oakhurst. After graduating from Rahway High School, she entered a 5-year apprentice training program at Quinn & Boden where she worked for over 9 years. She started proofreading for Harcourt, Brace, & Co. of NY. Later she worked for Di-La Co. in Lakewood, and finally at University Graphics in Atlantic Highlands.
Evelyn lived her religion. She was a devoted and active church member at Trinity United Methodist church in Rahway, then Old First United Methodist Church in Long Branch, and finally at First United Methodist church of Toms River. She joined Bible studies, sang in the choir, taught Vacation Bible School, worked at the soup kitchen, and helped at the rummage sales and Christmas bazaars. She was a charter member of Americus Assembly Rainbow Girls in Woodbridge and a member of Gradale sorority in Rahway. She was also a longtime volunteer for the Red Cross blood drives at Fort Monmouth and Toms River.
She was predeceased by her parents, Col. George H. and Florence L. McCullagh, and her husband, Arthur E. Paulsen. She is survived by her sister & sister-in-law, Alice McCullagh & Lisa Walters (FL), sister-in-law & brother in-law, Ruth & William Burkle (FL), daughter & son-in-law, Karen & Willis Van Gorder (NJ), son & daughter-in-law, Jeffrey & Linda Paulsen (CO), grandson, Sean Van Gorder (MD), granddaughter & husband, Diana & Adam Gerken (NY), granddaughters, Ayla King & Erica Paulsen (CO), and seven great-grandchildren, Natalia Bowlby, Jazmyne King, Izabelah King, Izaiah King, Armani King, Akira Webster (CO), and Taylor Gerken (NY).
Memorial service will be Sunday, November 7, 2021, at 1:00 at First United Methodist Church, 129 Chestnut St. at Old Freehold Rd., Toms River, NJ. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to First United Methodist Church of Toms River
