Eugene D. Leahey Age 95 of Forked River died on Saturday, August 12, 2023 peacefully where he resided at The Chelsea at Brick.
Mr. Leahey was born in Bayonne, NJ before moving to Manasquan, NJ in 1941 where he raised his family before moving to Forked River in 1993.
Eugene was a World War II veteran and served in the occupation of Japan. He retired from the Manasquan Post Office in 1984 after 36 years of service and worked on the Garden State Parkway for 11 years after his retirement.
He was a parishioner of St. Pius X Church and felt blessed to be an Adult Altar Server and Eucharist Minister. He also enjoyed his time as a member of the Three Foot Gunning Club for many years.
He was predeceased by his loving wife. Vernamarie, after 64 years of marriage on July 14, 2013 and by his son Matthew A. Leahey in 2005. Additionally, his parents Dennis and Helen Leahey along with his three brothers, Thomas Leahey, Joseph Leahey, and Richard Leahey.
He is survived by his sons Kevin Leahey and his wife Maura and Timothy Leahey and his wife Ann; six grandchildren Matthew and Erin, Jenna and Meghan, Brian and Angela; two great grandchildren Imogene and Aubrie Rose and former daughter in law Marylynn Ritchings.
Visitation will be Thursday, August 17th from 1-5pm at Laytons Home of Funerals, Forked River. Funeral Mass will follow on Friday, August 18th 9:30 am at Church of St. Pius X. Eugene’s body will be laid to rest at the General Williams C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery where he will be laid to rest next to his beloved wife.
