Doris Shields

Doris Shields, a beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother and cherished friend, passed away peacefully on September 6, 2024, at her home in Forked River, NJ, at the age of 96. Born on November 4, 1927, in Newark, NJ, Doris was the daughter of the late Jacob and Marion Kleinknecht.

Doris led a full life filled with love. She was married to Albert J. Shields for almost 50 years, a union that served as a cornerstone of her life.

Doris is now reunited in heaven with her beloved husband Albert. She was also preceded in death by her sister Veronica and her husband Harry Capko, her sister Marion and her husband Walter Mager, and her brother George and his wife Maryanne Kleinknecht.

She leaves behind a family who will continue to cherish her memory: her daughter Allison and her husband Ron Bender, grandchildren Matthew and Robert Bender, and precious great-grandchildren Lincoln and Gideon Bender. Doris's love for her family was boundless, and she took immense pride and joy in their accomplishments and happiness.

Throughout her life, Doris was an active member of St. Pius X Church until her later years. Her faith was a guiding force in her life, providing her with strength, comfort, and a sense of community.

In her younger years, Doris enjoyed aerobics, a testament to her vibrant and active spirit. She always found joy in movement and was known for her lively and energetic personality.

Visitation to honor and celebrate Doris's life will be held on September 10, 2024, at 1:00-5 PM at Layton's Home For Funerals. Burial at Good Luck Cemetery will follow a funeral mass at St. Pius X Church at 10:00 AM on September 11,2024. The family invites all who knew and loved Doris to join them in remembering a life well-lived and a woman who touched the hearts of so many.

Doris Shields lived a life rich in love, faith, and family. Her legacy will continue to inspire those who knew her, and she will be deeply missed by all. May she rest in eternal peace.
