Donato "Dan" Nigro Jr, 79, of Waretown, New Jersey, passed away on March 6, 2026 after battling stage 4 lung cancer for approximately one year.

Dan was born on March 14, 1946 and lived in Lodi, NJ until moving to Waretown, NJ in 2006.

Dan was predeceased by his parents  Donato Nigro Sr. and Josephine, beloved wife, Marlene Nigro, and his adored son, Danny Boy. He is survived by his loving wife, Jeanette "Nan" Neuert Nigro; his brother, Louis Nigro, and his wife, Joyce; and many cherished nieces and nephews. He shared a particularly close bond with Kenny Rainey his wife, Cori, and their children, Amanda and Jake, who held a very special place in his life. He is also survived by Stacia Remund and her husband, Rich; Brett Nigro and his wife, Jen; Jim Rainey and his wife, Marion; Kari and Richard Biele; and Chris and Grace Neuert. He also leaves behind Nan's grandchildren, as well as many great-nieces and great-nephews. Dan cherished the time he spent with his family and the many memories they created together.

Pat Natoli, Richie Brindisi, and Dan were born just days apart and shared a lifelong friendship that began from the very start. Growing up together, they remained close throughout the years, creating countless memories and maintaining a bond that stood the test of time. Their friendship was a special and lasting part of Dan's life.

Dan proudly served his country in the United States Marines during the Vietnam War earning him three Purple Hearts. Following his military service, he dedicated himself to a lifetime of hard work and perseverance, building a career that reflected both his determination and curiosity. Dan worked for Turner Construction for 20 years. In the aftermath of the September 11, 2001 attacks, Dan helped with the cleanup and recovery efforts at Ground Zero, demonstrating his willingness to step forward and help during a time of great need. Later in life, Dan worked at Stockton University. He went on to build a long career with New Jersey Transit, where he spent many years and took great pride in the work he did and the people he worked alongside. Dan remained dedicated to his job and continued working up until his illness no longer allowed him to do so. Demonstrating his lifelong commitment to learning, Dan earned his master's degree in Civil Engineering at the age of 65, a testament to his intelligence, determination, and belief that it is never too late to pursue your goals.

Outside of work, Dan found joy in life's simple pleasures. He loved his Corvette and could often be found at car shows, admiring beautiful classic cars and sharing stories with fellow enthusiasts. He enjoyed classic films, especially the original Frankenstein movies and Casablanca. Dan also loved boating, finding peace in the salty sea air. Dan loved to travel and especially enjoyed trips to the Caribbean, France, and Florida. He looked forward to exploring new places, soaking up the sunshine, and making memories with the people he loved.

Dan had a well-known sweet tooth and a fondness for Burger King and Dewey Dogs. He especially loved sharing treats with his wife's beloved 15-pound Morkie, Pippa. Dan and Pippa became inseparable best friends, and their bond brought Dan great happiness; and Pippa an extra few pounds.

Dan will be remembered for his strong work ethic, warm personality, and sense of humor. He was someone who believed in working hard, learning constantly, and enjoying the simple moments that made life special.

Dan will be deeply missed by his family and by all who had the privilege of knowing him
