Thompson, 89, of Lacey Township, NJ, passed away in the early morning hours of Sunday, September 22, 2024, at his home away from home, Spring Oak Assisted Living, in the company of his caring nurse. Born and raised in Jersey City, Artie lived there until moving to Toms River 62 years ago. Artie was a union butcher for various supermarkets for over 30 years. He also served for a short time as a dispatcher for the then Dover Township (Toms River) Police Department. Artie was also a volunteer firefighter with the East Dover Fire Company in Toms River for 10 years. He will always be remembered as a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and most recently, great-grandfather, as well as a loyal friend to many, and a patriot in his proud service to our country in the United States Navy.
Artie was predeceased by his parents, Stuart and Nellie Thompson, as well as his devoted and loving wife, Ruth, of nearly 62 years. She was the absolute love of his life. Artie is also survived by his daughters Doreen and Eileen; his sons-in-law Chuck and Steve; his grandchildren, Parker and Brianna; Kelly and her husband Dylan, and their son and his great-grandson, Zachary; Lindsey and her fiancé Kristopher; and the dogs he adored, Nico and Wilbur Bud, his constant companions whenever they were together.
Friends are encouraged to visit Layton’s Home For Funerals at 250 Lacey Road in Forked River, NJ, on Thursday, September 26, 2024, from 2-6 p.m. to pay tribute to a life well lived and the legacy Artie leaves behind.
