Anna Marie Malato Obituary

Anna Malato (nee Giordano), devoted mother, grandmother, cousin, aunt and friend passed away on Wednesday, July 13, 2022.  Anna was the only child of Anthony and Marie Giordano born at St. Michael’s Hospital in Newark, New Jersey on April 25, 1948.

People who knew Anna called her a “lovely lady”, “wonderful person” and “special woman”. To know her was to know that you were in the presence of pure love. Her kindness never went unnoticed whether it be a thoughtful gesture, an encouraging word, or the way she greeted you with the biggest of hugs and a smile that lit up the room. Her generosity often came across in the little things that she did including baking her delicious cream puffs, tri-colored cookies, anise cookies, pumpkin bread, or rice pudding and cooking her savory Italian gravy with pasta and meatballs.  She enjoyed entertaining her friends for an afternoon lunch or family for dinner. Anna delighted in cooking, baking and being surrounded by the people she cherished.

Her greatest joys, though were her son, Steve and her grandson, Steven.  When they were with her, she doted on them the way any adoring mother or grandmother would and her heart beamed with such pride and joy one couldn’t help but to feel that affection too.

She got such enjoyment from watching Steven play baseball for the past 8 years.  When she couldn’t make a game, she resorted to making sure that she caught up through phone calls or game apps. When Steven and his team made a run in the Little League World Series last year, she watched every game from the amenities of home cheering on him and his teammates with such pride and delight- “That’s my grandson,” she told everyone. She didn’t stop there, though. She gathered every article and picture she could find of Steven throughout his experience and created a scrapbook for him to hold the memories that he created. Everything she did, she did with much love for others and those memories will live on in our hearts forever.

Anna was mother to Steve and his wife, Karyl (nee Martucci), grandmother to Steven, Jr., predeceased by daughter-in-law Nicole (nee Briamonte) and friend to so many. For those wishing to pay your respects to the family and celebrate Anna’s life, services will be at Layton’s Home of Funerals Monday, July 18 from 2PM-6PM.  A funeral mass will take place on Tuesday, July 19 at St. Pius X Catholic Church on 300 Lacey Road in Forked River, NJ with a burial to follow at Holy Cross Cemetery Ridge Road North Arlington, NJ.
