Anna Mahoney passed away peacefully from this world and entered into eternity on Saturday, 12 April 2025, at Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune, NJ, she was 95. She was the daughter of the late Michael and Eva Lazorko and is the last of five siblings. We often joked with her that she was the “Last person standing” due to her surviving her brothers and friends which passed before her. She was born in Jersey City, NJ and graduated from Dickerson High School class of 47. Her marriage to Raymond F. Mahoney Sr spanned 60 years before he passed in 2012. Her and her husband enjoyed and were accomplished ballroom dancers. As parents, they conveyed the importance of education, values and a strong work ethic to each of their children. She was a loving mother to her two sons. She was the beloved mother of Raymond F. Mahoney Jr and Colonel M. B. Mahoney, United States Army, ret. She was the grandmother to Dr. Catherine Mahoney, Dr. Mary Mahoney and Sarah Mahoney, J.D. She was proud of her sons and granddaughters numerous accomplishments and shared their success stories with everyone. Anna lived most of her life in Jersey City and for many years worked at the library at the University of Medicine, Newark, NJ. She had a strong work ethic and worked various office jobs during her life at which she excelled at. For the past thirty plus years she resided at Forked River, NJ. During that time she was a member of Village Lutheran Church and enjoyed playing bingo, Sudoku, daily reading and studying her bible and prayer. She memorized scriptures and could quote many of them. I asked mom in the hospital if she was praying, she replied “I am always praying”. Anna was very independent and resided in her private residence until the age of 95. Anna will be truly missed by many family members and friends and left a lasting legacy with all the lives she impacted.
Friends may visit from 2-6 Thursday, April 24 at Layton's Home for Funerals, (609) 971-6800, 250 W. Lacey Road, Forked River, Lacey. Remembrance of her life and eulogy will commence at 4:45 Thursday, April 24. Relatives and friends of the family are respectfully invited to attend the graveside and committal services on Friday, 25 April at 11:00 a.m. at Hillside Cemetery, Lyndhurst, NJ.
