Andrew Guerriero,Jr. Obituary

It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the sudden passing of Andrew John Guerriero, 86, who passed away at home  on May 13, 2025.

Andrew was raised in Lodi, NJ and then raised his family in Ridgewood NJ residing there for over 30 years.  Later he settled in Long Branch and settling in Waretown.  He was a long-time summer resident and business owner on Long Beach Island and a long-time winter resident of Sarasota, Fl.

At the heart of Andrew's life was his beloved family. Andrew shared 56 beautiful years of marriage with his "adventure mate" the late Barbara (Berezansky) Guerriero. Together they built a home filled with warmth, tradition, and love.  He was a devoted father to Lisa Guerriero Weller and her husband Thomas; Drew Guerriero and his wife Michele (Wright); and Michael Guerriero and his partner Sandy Jassal.  His grandchildren—Katherine Weller, Roman Guerriero, Nicholas Guerriero, Jeremi Guerriero, and Rylee Guerriero—were his pride and joy. He cherished every moment spent with them, offering guidance, laughter, and unconditional love.

Andy graduated from Lodi High School in 1956 and Montclair State College in 1960.  He received his Masters in Mathematics from the University of Illinois and began his career teaching in many north Jersey schools including Pascack Valley, Glen Rock, and Lyndhurst.  Andrew always gave credit to his mentors who steered him in his high school days.  So, a career in education gave him the opportunity to to give back to others and help students.  He became an inspiring mentor who left a lasting impression on countless students and colleagues and friends.   Andrew's love for teaching extended beyond the classroom. With his wife Barbara and young family, he adventured to Somalia to train other teachers—an experience that reflected both his adventurous spirit and love of learning.  He had a passion for real estate and had great instincts for acquiring properties.  He was always up for a trip with the Ridgewood Hobbyists or a good party and a song. Later in life, he became a successful business owner on Long Beach Island, New Jersey, where he continued to apply his sharp mind and entrepreneurial instincts.

For over 60 years, Andrew found joy in barbershop singing and chorus performances—his voice adding harmony to the Big Apple Chorus, Sarasota Chorus, the Greenbriar Glee club, and various quartets over the year.  He would do anything to perform - from Ridgewood's Dad's night and Jamboree, to worldwide barbershop competitions and shows.  He had a song for any occasion!

He delighted in solving Sudoku puzzles, playing golf, exploring new places with Barbara by his side, and most especially spending time with his children and grandchildren.

He was predceeased by his cherished wife Barbara; his father Andrew Guerriero; and mother Sadie Guerriero, many cherished aunts, uncles, and cousins.  Andrew is survived by his sister Marilyn LaManna; sister-in-law Ginger (Mary Ann) Lee; brother-in-law Nicholas Berezansky and his wife Cathy; along with loving cousins, nieces and nephews and so many dear friends.

We will miss his generosity, his singing, his storytelling and his sharp mind.  May his memory continue to inspire all who knew him.
