Obituary

Andrew J. Dzikowicz (Captain Andy) of Forked River, NJ passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, February 20, 2022. He was 60 years old. Andy was born in Jersey City, NJ to the late Josephine (Manorek) and Anthony J. Dzikowicz.

Andy had a love for the water, nature, and the outdoors which he turned into his life’s work as a charter boat captain. He started fishing at an early age with his father on the Palace fishing boat. When he was twelve, he started working as, a “Box Boy” selling drinks, rigs, cleaning bait buckets working his way up to deckhand and captain of the Palace II.

After the Palace was sold Andy started his own charter boat business with his first boat, the Pioneer I, he, and a partner graduated to a larger boat, Pioneer II.   He became sole owner of Pioneer III which he ran until his retirement in 2016. He will be remembered for his wonderful smile and great fishing stories. He enjoyed making memories for clients and friends.

After the 9/11 tragedy Andy aided in the evacuation from the New York to New Jersey, he then stated working on the commuter ferries which is where he and Evelyn met and the rest was history…..

After his retirement, Andy and Evelyn moved to Forked River, spending their days exploring Southern Jersey where they enjoyed crabbing, surf fishing, hiking, bird watching, and visiting little-known towns.

Andy enjoyed trout fishing, cooking, reading, and sports following the (NY Yankees) and (NY Giants).

Andy is survived by his wife Evelyn Kelling, and his brother Father Justin Dzikowicz as well as his nieces and nephews, Danette Sell (James), Ardith Raizanow, Pattiann Beach (Benjamin), Kenneth Dzikowicz (Michelle), Samantha Geissinger (Dewayne), Jennifer Dzikowicz, Gabrielle Miller (Jeff), Jason Dzikowicz (Jesse). He was predeceased by, his brothers Robert Dzikowicz, and Kenneth Dzikowicz.

Andy’s Life Celebration will include a Memorial Mass on Saturday March 5th 2022, at 10:00 am at St. Pius X Catholic Church 300 Lacey Road Forked River, NJ. Family and friends are invited to join in a celebration of life at the Captain’s Inn 304 E Lacey Road, Forked River NJ.
