Yvette M. Carlson, 91, of Lanoka Harbor, NJ passed away peacefully on August 7, 2017. She was a beautiful, amazing and loving woman and will be greatly missed by all of her family and friends.
Yvette was born in Denmark and was raised in Paris, France. As a teenager during WWII, Yvette, along with her brother, Pierre, fought with the French Resistance and helped to save many Jewish lives. Yvette was awarded the Jeanne d’Arc Medal commemorating her service and sacrifices.
After the war, Yvette worked at the French Embassy in Denmark. Later, she immigrated to the United States and worked as a translator in New York City. It was on her ocean voyage to the United States that she met her future husband, Erik Carlson.
Yvette was a life-long and highly respected educator. She retired from Friends Select School in Philadelphia, PA where she held the position of Director of the Middle School.
Yvette was predeceased by her parents Aage Hansen and Lucy Meiller, her brother Pierre Hansen, her sister Jeanette Sohl, her husband Erik Carlson and her grandson Jamie Deitz.
Yvette is survived by her daughters Ingrid Roberts and her husband William and Anne Claire Deitz and her husband Michael. “Grandmere” is also survived by her grandchildren David and wife Erin, Mark and wife Christy, Karen and husband Jason and James. In addition, she is survived by her great-grandchildren Molly, Meghan, Mackenzie, Emma, Tommy, Collin, Libby, Caitlin and Courtney. Her companion, Joseph Mittlesdorf, always had a special place in her heart.
