James C. "Seamus" Hughes, 81, of Forked River section of Lacey Township, passed away, Thursday, November 29, 2018.
Born in Monaghan, Ireland, Seamus moved to the United States in 1957. He married Dymphna McQuillan on Dec. 7, 1959. They lived in the Bronx, NY, Ireland, and settled in Ridgefield Park, where they raised their family. He retired to Forked River to spend his days with his wife, family and grandchildren.
James proudly and honorably served his country in the United States Army.
James was an auto & truck mechanic with the City of New York, Department of Sanitation.
He was a devoted and loving husband, father, and grandfather and will be sadly missed by all who knew him.
James was predeceased by his wife of 58 years, Dymphna 8 months ago. His parents, James and Josephine; and sisters, Mary Hoey and Josephine McCauley.
Surviving are a son, James; daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Robert Gavin; a son and daughter-in-law, Kenneth and Ellen; cherished grandchildren, Sean Hughes, Robert, Kaitlyn and Erin Gavin; a sister, Sadie Kelly, Newport Beach, CA; and brother-in-law Francis McQuillan of Monahan Ireland; and many nieces and nephews.
