Gertrude A. Caruso passed away peacefully at home after a brief illness. She was surrounded by her loving family. Gert was 96 years young!
Gert was born in Hoboken to her dear parents Daniel Francis Murphy and Nora Stevens Murphy. She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 68 years Vincent, her adoring son Vincent and his wife Janet; also, her siblings Lucille McGovern, Anne (Sis) Murphy, Daniel Francis Murphy, Jr., and Kenneth Murphy.
Gert is survived by her cherished daughter Jane and her caring “Son” in Law John.
Also surviving are her devoted sister Sharon Hodge and husband Edward and dear sister in law Joan Caruso. Gertrude is also survived by many nieces, nephews, her Godson Adam and a host of thoughtful friends.
Gertrude was a receptionist for a local doctor and then became a payroll manager for CETA programs in Hoboken. She enjoyed cruising and traveling especially to her home away from home St. Maarten. She also could be found reading, trying her luck in Las Vegas and Atlantic City and rooting on the NY Giants. Gert loved God, her country, and life itself but she loved her family and friends above all.
Gert’s smile was contagious and her caring personality touched everyone. Gert will be greatly missed but her memory will live on as she was an inspiration to all who knew her.
In lieu of flowers donations to FDR or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in memory of Gert would be appreciated. See donation links below.
