Eugene (Gene) Francis Stanczak, 85, of Forked River passed away on July 31 at Community Medical Center after a brief illness. Gene was predeceased by his wife of 54 years, Helen, in 2013. Gene missed Helen so much that he joined her in heaven on her birthday as a surprise. In addition, Gene leaves behind 5 children of whom he was very proud, Valerie (Larry) Murphy, Michael and his wife Lori-Ann, Donna, Anemarie (Dan) Hall, John and his wife Maggie. Gene was a loving and playful Pop-Pop who enjoyed playing pranks and performing “magic tricks” for his 8 grandchildren, Joseph (Katie), Samantha, Alexandra (Travis), Daniel, Owen and Molly. They were his pride and joy. He was immensely happy upon the arrival of his only great-grand child, Luke.
Gene was born on December 2, 1932 to Joseph and Helen in Newark and lived there and in Kearny with his siblings, Mickey, Eleanor and Joseph, most of his life. After graduating from Kearny High School, Gene served in the US Army during Korea. He took a job at RCA in Harrison and began a career that spanned more than 40 years. They say the work defines the man-well then Gene could be defined as hard, enduring and excellent. He worked as an electrical engineer for RCA and later GE, Harris and Lockheed Martin. During this tenure, he worked on many government projects including the Apollo Lunar project and numerous defense satellites.
Gene was a great neighbor to all and was always willing to lend a hand when asked and was often seen helping friends and neighbors with household chores. A lifelong Giants fan, Gene enjoyed attending games with family and friends. He particularly enjoyed sharing this experience with his grandchildren. When not at the games he could be found enjoying them at home in his recliner. In the summer he could be found around the tv or radio listening to the Yankees.
Upon retirement, Gene and Helen moved to Forked River, where Gene enjoyed working around the house and tanning in the pool.
He will be missed by all.
