Donald Derewecki Obituary

Donald Joseph Derewecki passed away on March 4, 2024 surrounded by his family.  He was born on June 19, 1950 to Genevieve Wojewodka and Joseph Derewecki in Wheeling, West Virginia.  He grew up in Shadyside, Ohio in the home that his father built.

Don was a graduate of Shadyside High School, class of 1968, and went on to Ohio State University where he earned a degree in Business Administration.  While there he was an avid Ohio State Football Fan, member of the Delta Upsilon Fraternity and completed ROTC Training.  Upon graduation he was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in the United States Army as a Transportation Officer.

While commissioned as an officer in Brooklyn, New York he met Anne Marie Sheehan, whom he married in 1975.  Together they raised two daughters, Kristen and Katelyn.  Don was a devoted father, who loved to read to his girls at bed time, tried to teach them long division, and was always present at every one of their Softball, Rugby and Field Hockey games. As his family grew, he became the most proud dziadzi to his three grandchildren, one of whom you could always find on his lap being read to.

He worked as a consultant in supply chain management and logistics for nearly 50 years.  He began as a warehouse supervisor for a general merchandise store before he became a consultant for Walter Frederick Friedman.  Following that, he worked for Gross and Associates for over 20 years where he helped to grow the company and rose to be President prior to its acquisition.  Most recently he was a Senior Consultant for the St. Onge Company, where he worked on projects domestically and internationally.

Don loved to watch Ohio State Football, the New York Yankees, and the New York Giants.  He enjoyed a nice cigar, a dry martini and a glass of scotch. On rainy days he would watch Mel Brooks movies with his family and laugh way too hard while munching on popcorn.

Don was predeceased by his parents and baby sister.  His memory will forever be held in the hearts of his surviving family: his wife Anne Marie; his children Kristen (Jackie) and Katelyn (Nicholas); his three grandchildren Parker, Jetty and Finnegan; his sister Deborah (Robert) and his many nieces and nephews.
