John J. Garrigan, Sr., age 81, of Forked River died Wednesday at Southern Ocean Medical Center, Stafford Township.

Born in South Orange, NJ, living most of his life in South Orange, NJ before moving to Forked River in 1987. Mr. Garrigan retired in 1989 as a Captain with the South Orange Fire Department and he was also an Army Veteran serving our country during 1958-1960. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather who lived his life for his family.

He was predeceased by his brother Matthew in 2011.

Surviving his wife of 56 years Kathleen J. (Valli); his children and their spouses Kathleen and Kevin Maybury of Chester, NJ, Matthew and Maria Garrigan of Long Valley, NJ, John J Garrigan, Jr. and Susan of Wall, NJ, Mary and Peter DeSarno of New Providence, NJ; ten grandchildren Kelly, Emma, Connor, Cassandra, Jack, Madeline, Colleen, Paige, Brooke and Claire; his sister and brother in-law Julie and Thomas Slattery of Manchester, NJ.
