Anthony NaiaNovember 27, 1934 ~ March 16, 2017 (age 82)
Anthony (Tony) Naia, 82, of Long Beach Township passed away March 16, 2017 with his loving wife of 26 years, June, by his side and surrounded by family. Born in Murtosa, Portugal, he immigrated to America in 1937. He resided in Newark, NJ until 1959 when he moved to Forked River.
A proud Korean War veteran, Tony worked for Bilkays Express from 1964 until 1984. He then became self employed as a Master plumber under “Tony Naia Plumbing and Heating” until retiring in 2002. Since retirement he enjoyed dividing his time between Long Beach Township, NJ and Fort Myers Beach, Florida surrounded by the surf and sand he loved.
Tony was a proud member of the Southern Ocean County Master Plumbers Association, American Legion, Elks and Moose, serving as governor for two terms.
He was predeceased by his wife Louise, parents Joa’n DeMatos DeNaia and Nazarre Cordosa DeNaia, brothers, John, Manuel, Alfredo and sister Rose Vicido and grandson Paul Naia.
He is survived by his brothers Jackie and his wife, Barbara DeNaia, Joseph, sister Celeste Butterfield, sons Joseph and wife Cathy, Thomas, Anthony and wife Debbie and John, daughters Louise and husband Joe Bielskie, Florence and husband Joe McLaughlin and Marie Naia. Stepchildren, Edward Mitchell, Denise and Dave Berkowitz, Bill and Christine Mitchell and Karen and Josh Ippolito. He is also survived by 25 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
Tony loved spending time at the beach with family and friends, barbecuing in the backyard, boating and fishing. He will be greatly missed by all those whose lives he touched.
In Lieu of flowers, donations will be accepted for a Memorial Bench in Tony’s name that will be placed at the 25th Street beach in Beach Haven.
